Cotton
Cotton is a very old cultivated plant. It is noteworthy that at least four peoples may have independently domesticated this plant genus. This happened twice in the New World with the species Gossypium hirsutum and Gossypium barbadense and in the Old World once each in Asia (Gossypium arboreum) and Africa (Gossypium herbaceum). Cotton fiber, a natural fiber, is obtained from the seed hairs. The cotton fibers are also called cotton.
